Being a Woman in a
Male-Oriented Industry

Web design team made up of three men and one woman.

So - What's It Like?

Being a female web designer in a male-dominated field can be both challenging and rewarding.  While there may be instances of feeling underestimated or overlooked, there is also a sense of empowerment in breaking stereotypes and paving the way for other women in the industry.  Our perspectives highlight the dual nature of women in the industry while acknowledging the different aspects of creating outstanding web designs.

Some Keys To Remember

The main key is to stay confident in your own skills and abilities while continuing to push boundaries and stereotypes.  Most importantly is proving your worth through your work.

As a female web designer, you will bring unique perspectives and creativity to any project that you are a part of.  By embracing your femininity and leveraging it as a strength, you can stand out in this field that is predominately male.

It’s important to surround yourself with a supportive network of colleagues and mentors.

Never shy away from speaking up and advocating for yourself and your skills.  If you don’t blow your own horn, nobody else will do it for you.

How Did I End Up With Web Dezyn Plus

My perspective highlights me being a female entrepreneur in this highly technical website creation business.  I understood the challenges of being a creative when I could not find a male web designer who understood my vision for my very first business, NightinGail Photography!  So I learned all the technical parts of creating my very first website.  Learning and keeping on top of all the changes in the online business world on the web has been and continues to be a part of my weekly assignments.  I broke away from the stereotypes and never looked back.

I’ve always been confident in my skills and abilities and if I didn’t know something right off — I learned how to do it — with online classes, video conferences and just asking questions to other website designers that I admire.   Never be afraid to ask!

My designs showcase the diversity of my talents by providing different perspectives that contribute to more innovative and inclusive designs that work for each of my clients.  All are individuals with different business requirements and it is my job to create their vision into the website of their dreams.

Every website is a process and working with business owners requires tact, good communication skills as well as the technical skills.

Be a “real” person and let your clients see you.  Nobody is perfect and maybe your clients will become friends as well.

Make a Difference

Keep pushing the boundaries, inspire others with your work and you will make a difference.
